Job Responsibilities

Primary purpose:

• Serve as lead operator in the performance of various operations and maintenance duties to ensure safe and efficient operation of the processing system and associated equipment, protection of the environment, and compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Comply with all safety, environmental, operating, and reporting policies, procedures, and requirements.
• Control, operate, and troubleshoot the processing system operations within the design parameters.
• Perform routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates and transfer of products.
• Control, monitor, and make necessary adjustments on control systems and manually operated equipment.
• Troubleshoot process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems and identify equipment requiring maintenance.
• Lift hoses, bolt flanges, and operate valves and similar equipment including the proper clearing and isolation of equipment.
• Sample and test materials per quality system procedures.
• Manage overall operations including inspection and monitoring of processing unit, tanks, piping and valves; product sampling and testing; product inventory measurement and documentation; operational and regulatory record keeping; maintaining facility security.
• Utilize Human Machine Interface (HMI) to provide system control, equipment status, and alarm notifications revolving around the process control unit, tank farm, and truck loading rack interfaces.
• Effectively communicate within the team and between shifts; document activities, faults, and opportunities for improvements via Shift Notes, Maintenance Work Orders, shift relief meetings, etc.
• Assist Maintenance and/or other departments as required.
• Attend daily and monthly safety meetings; participate in and show proficiency (through written exam) in general and site-specific operations and maintenance training programs.
• Organizes and prioritizes work performed to meet deadlines while maintaining flexibility to provide support for developing or unexpected needs.
• Represents the company in a professional and positive manner.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Perform and direct assigned operators in the performance of various operations and facility maintenance tasks and duties.
• Consolidate and run system reports as required.
• Provide leadership to develop and promote best practices.
• Evaluate and develop site specific procedures and ensure that they are followed by all team members.

 

Job Requirements: 

Minimum requirements:

Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience/Specific knowledge:
• A minimum of 5 years of successful work experience in a refinery, chemical processing, or industrial environment is required.
• Previous experience serving in a lead capacity is a plus.
• Must have demonstrated the ability to successfully lead and instruct other operators.
• Electrical and/or mechanical experience is a plus.
• Must be able to pass Operation Qualification test upon completion of training.
• Vacuum distillation experience is a plus.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Company’s Insurance Carrier
• Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credentials, TWIC, card.

Competencies, skills and abilities:
• Safety in performance of duties.
• Ability and dependability to perform job duties with minimal supervision.
• Ability to accept supervision/direction and work cooperatively with other people.
• Ability to recognize, define, and effectively resolve problems individually or collectively within a group and in ambiguous situations.
• Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, OneNote, and Outlook). Send and receive email, perform inventory accounting, and enter repair work orders, etc.
• Ability to accept supervision/direction and work cooperatively with other people.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend communications and documents in English.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations in the performance of duties.
• Must satisfactorily complete all training including passing evaluations and tests.
• Self-motivated

Physical demands:
• Ability to manually open and close valves
• Ability to carry/move up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and heights in excess of 60 feet.
• Required to sit, stand, walk and climb for extended periods of time.
• Must wear required uniform and PPE.
• Ability to walk on paved, gravel or other uneven surfaces.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding and work at heights; ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend and twist.
• Ability to manipulate and use hand tools.
• Ability to see to perform administrative and field tasks.

Working conditions:
• Work assigned schedule (DuPont slow rotation 12-hour shift) including overtime, call-outs, and coverage as required.
• Work outside in all weather conditions in daylight and darkness.

Supervisory responsibility:
• Lead a crew of 1-3 operators to meet operational expectations as set by management and daily defined job duties.

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position
• Relevant 2-year Associate degree or 4-year degree.
• Prior experience in petroleum industry, chemical process, power plant, or electrical and or mechanical experience.
• Prior experience with Truck Management Systems (i.e., TMS 5/6).
• Prior experience with Vacuum Distillation Processing units.
